Limestone (ancient sea bed makes up the sub soil. Geodes and fossils are easily found. Soil is often clay and rocky and unhospitable to growing unless amended with plant material. Hardwood forests have been depleted for consrution and paper mills, new fast growing trees replaced the old growth.
